Bargarh: In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, Bargarh police have arrested six persons and detained two minors after seizing a large consignment of banned cough syrup during a raid on Wednesday.
Acting on information received from a reliable source, police conducted a raid on a house under construction located along the Bargarh–Katapali road. During the operation, officers recovered 5,050 bottles of Eskof cough syrup, which is commonly misused as an intoxicant.
Apart from the cough syrup, police also seized ₹76,700 in cash, one auto-rickshaw, seven mobile phones, four motorcycles, and two scooters from the possession of the accused.
Addressing a press conference, Bargarh Superintendent of Police Prahlad Sahai Meena said that the arrests were made following a well-coordinated operation and that the seized items indicate the existence of an organized network involved in the illegal trade.
“The investigation is ongoing to identify and trace other individuals connected to this racket,” the SP said, adding that the role of the detained minors is also being examined as per legal procedures.
Police suspect the seized cough syrup was meant for illegal distribution in and around the district. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the supply chain and destination points of the contraband.
