Abhishek Banerjee Targets BJP MP Mahato, Questions His Contribution To Development In Purulia

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday slammed BJP MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, saying that despite being a two-time MP from the Purulia constituency in West Bengal, he has failed to develop the district.

Addressing a public meeting in Purulia as part of his ‘Abar Jitbe Bangla’ (Bengal will win again) outreach campaign, Banerjee drew a comparison between past and present development and called for the BJP to be completely wiped out in the district.

The Trinamool Congress MP promised that if this is achieved, he will fulfil all the demands of the local people within six months of the Assembly election results.

Questioning what development the BJP MP had brought to the area during the 11 years of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, Banerjee pointed out the regular delays of important trains like the Chakradharpur Express and the Purulia Express.

“If a single train cannot reach Howrah on time, then what has the MP done in all these years? He who takes no initiative regarding the problem of train delays, is he going to talk about development? I know that many demands of the people here have not yet been fulfilled. But I promise that if the Trinamool wins all the seats in Purulia, I will try to fulfill all your demands within six months,” he said.

At the same time, Banerjee said: “Within three months of the elections, we will put an end to these train delays in Purulia. We will not tolerate a situation where a 10 pm train arrives the next morning.”

Highlighting the situation in Purulia before 2011, Banerjee said that people once had to live in fear and uncertainty. He also recalled a period marked by Maoist violence, political unrest and administrative paralysis in Purulia.

Referring to improvements in connectivity and various development projects, he claimed that after those terrible days, peace and normalcy returned to Purulia after the Mamata Banerjee government came to power in 2011.
