Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped the busy Janpath here on Friday after an Ama Bus reportedly hit a motorcycle, leaving the two-wheeler rider seriously injured and triggering public outrage.
According to preliminary information, the Ama Bus collided with the motorcycle on the congested Janpath stretch, causing the rider to be thrown onto the road. The injured biker sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to hospital.
Following the accident, angry locals gathered at the spot, accusing the bus driver of reckless driving. The situation escalated as protesters vandalised the Ama Bus, leading to a temporary disruption of traffic on the road. To escape public wrath, the bus driver and conductor reportedly fled the scene.
Upon receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The police pacified the irate crowd and cleared the road, restoring normal traffic movement after some time.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Officials said CCTV footage from the area will be examined, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
Notably, this is the second incident involving an Ama Bus reported this month in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, a speeding Ama Bus had rammed into an auto-rickshaw from behind at Rupali Square, killing the auto-rickshaw driver on the spot and injuring two passengers. That incident had also sparked protests, with locals damaging the bus involved.
