Bhubaneswar: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the January 19 armed robbery at the Bank of Maharashtra’s Barbil branch in Keonjhar.
Raja Kumar Singh and Kunal Raj Sharma have been arrested from Dhanbad in Jharkhand. The accused are being taken to Odisha.
The robbers made off with approximately Rs 4.34 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 5 crore. The police recovered 288 grams of gold and two Scorpio vehicles from the accused, who are believed to be the masterminds behind the heist.
The robbery, which occurred at around 2 pm, involved five to six armed men who threatened bank staff and customers, forcing them to open the strong room. The police have intensified their investigation, examining CCTV footage and setting up blockades to catch the remaining culprits.
