Bhubaneswar: A large decomposed whale carcass has been discovered lying at the mouth of the Devi River in Jagatsinghpur district since early this morning, drawing attention from local residents.
According to reports, the dead whale has been sighted in the Devi River and adjacent coastal areas of the district throughout the day. The exact species remains unconfirmed, though initial observations have led to speculation that it could be a blue whale or a similar large cetacean.
According to forest department official, the remains measured approximately 30 feet in length.
Forest and wildlife officials are yet to conduct a detailed examination to verify the identification.
The mammal appears to have perished in the deep sea several days earlier before drifting ashore, the official stated. The body will be buried in accordance with protocol.
