Bhubaneswar: A Class X student was tragically electrocuted while lowering the National Flag after the 77th Republic Day celebrations at a private coaching centre in Samagol under Kujang police limits, Jagatsinghpur district, on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Omm Prakash Dwivedy, a minor who was staying at his maternal uncle’s residence in Samagol and attending tuition classes at the coaching centre.
According to reports, students celebrated Republic Day on the rooftop of the building in the morning by hoisting the National Flag using a metal pipe. In the evening, while lowering the flag, the pipe accidentally came into contact with live wires, electrocuting Omm Prakash.
Villagers rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the police detained the owner of the coaching centre and have launched a detailed investigation.
