Bhubaneswar: A shocking case of digital arrest scam has come to light in Bhubaneswar, where a woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 30 lakh after falling victim to a ‘digital arrest’ scam.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim at the Cyber Police Station in Bhubaneswar, police launched an investigation, traced the money trail, and arrested one of the suspects, identified as G. Chiranjeevi, a resident of Uttar Pradesh and seized his belongings including two mobile phones, an ATM card, a cheque book, a PAN card and an Adhaar card.
According to sources, the scammers posed as TRAI officials and convinced her that her SIM card was involved in various crimes. They frightened her into transferring money to three accounts.
The woman later approached the Cyber Police Station in Bhubaneswar after realising that she had been duped.
