Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Keonjhar on Wednesday sentenced a former Junior Engineer of NESCO to one year of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for demanding and accepting a bribe.
The convict, Ananta Kumar Sahoo, formerly posted as Junior Engineer (Electrical Section No. III), NESCO, Keonjhar, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
He was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a consumer for providing an electricity connection to a newly constructed house.
Following the trial, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar, found Sahoo guilty and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year along with a fine. Sahoo has since been disengaged from service.
