Baripada: In a shocking and gruesome incident, a 36-year-old man allegedly hacked his mother to death, suspecting her of being a witch responsible for his family’s misfortunes.
The incident occurred at Kalaraphulia village under Betanati police limits.
The accused has been identified as Tapan Singh and the deceased has been identified as his mother Raimani Singh.
According to reports, Tapan used to live with his mother Raimani and wife. Tapan’s wife had lost a child in the womb a few months ago, and he suspected his mother of practicing witchcraft, leading to the tragedy.
To take revenge, Tapan reportedly attacked his mother with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot. Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing Raimani’s screams and informed the police.
Upon being informed, police rushed to the spot, arrested Tapan and seized the body for investigation.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
