Bhubaneswar: As many as five persons were killed and eight sustained injuries after a truck collided with motorcycles on the National Highway at Haladiapadar Square in Berhampur on Saturday.
According to reports, the truck was reportedly on the wrong side of the National Highway when it smashed into multiple two-wheelers. The heavy vehicle is reported to have rammed into three motorcycles, crushing the victims’ heads, killing five people instantly. Eight others were injured in the road mishap and rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The accident scene was chaotic, with bodies lying on the road for hours, causing a massive traffic jam on the National Highway and disrupting traffic flow.
Till the last report came in, police were struggling to manage the situation, with vehicles stranded for hours. Officials, including police and district administration, rushed to the spot, and an investigation is underway to identify the deceased and determine what went wrong.
