Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan Zoological Park authorities, have reported the deaths of five crocodiles over an eight-day period from January 23 to January 30, 2026.
The incidents have raised concerns among wildlife enthusiasts and zoo officials, as the exact cause of the mortality remains unclear at this stage. Park authorities conducted post-mortem examinations on the deceased crocodiles to determine the underlying reasons.
Zoo officials expects veterinary and forensic reports to reveal the precise cause of death in the coming days. They are closely monitoring the health of the remaining crocodiles in the enclosure.
Nandankanan Zoological Park is renowned for its successful conservation breeding programs, including for crocodilians, and houses a significant population of species such as mugger crocodiles (Crocodylus palustris) and gharials.
The park has been actively involved in crocodile conservation efforts aligned with national initiatives.
