Nabarangpur: Police on Tuesday busted a gambling den operating in a cashew orchard at Nuaguda village under the Nabarangpur Town Police Station limits, apprehending seven persons in the process.
According to Nabarangpur Town Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sambit Behera, all the accused are residents of Nabarangpur town and were caught red-handed while playing cards with money stakes.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹40,560 along with 104 playing cards from the spot. The gambling activity was allegedly being carried out discreetly in the cashew orchard to evade public attention.
The operation was led by Nabarangpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Krishnachandra Bhatra. The raiding team included Inspector-in-Charge Sambit Behera, Sub-Inspector Sabir Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tulsi Ram Pujari, and other police personnel.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway to ascertain if more individuals were involved in the illegal gambling activity.
