Bhubaneswar: The 74th State Police Athletic Championship 2026 was inaugurated at the Reserve Police Ground in Cuttack’s Buxibazar today. Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Binaytosh Mishra formally opened the event, highlighting the championship’s significance in showcasing the discipline, restraint, and tolerance of Odisha Police.
Mishra emphasized that the state-level sports event provides an opportunity for working police personnel to demonstrate their physical and mental capabilities. He also welcomed the increased participation of female sportspersons this year.
Odisha Police athletes have recently achieved remarkable success in national and international police sports competitions, and Mishra expressed hope that the championship’s successful competitors will make the department proud in upcoming events, including the All India Police Athletic Championship.
The championship, which continues until February 10, features 502 players from 36 police teams across the state, including 427 men and 75 women.
Athletic Championship Chairman and Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Pratya Mohanty, IGP (Personnel) S. Praveen Kumar, IGP (SAP) Satish Kumar, IGP (Intelligence) Jai Narayan Pankaj, DIG (Provisioning) Charan Singh Meena, Cuttack DCP (Cuttack) Khilari Rushikesh Dyandeo, 6th Battalion Commandant Surya Narayan Mallick and many other senior officers were present at the event.
