Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of two persons from Ganjam district who lost their lives in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh.
The fatal accident occurred on a national highway near Palavalasa in Nandigam Mandal of Srikakulam district when a car travelling from Ganjam to Visakhapatnam rammed into a stationary van. The deceased have been identified as Vasipilli Mohini and Vasipilli Dalaya, residents of Patisonapur village in Ganjam district.
Expressing deep grief over the incident, the Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. Taking to social media platform X, Majhi said he was saddened to learn about the tragic mishap and announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of each deceased.
According to reports, the car was transporting a patient identified as Balaiah from Ganjam to Visakhapatnam for medical treatment. Balaiah and another person travelling with him were killed in the collision, while five others sustained injuries.
The injured were rushed to the government hospital at Tekkali for treatment. One of the injured, whose condition was reported to be critical, was later referred to Srikakulam for advanced medical care.
Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and have initiated further investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
