Malkangiri: Police seized ganja worth around ₹1 crore from a forest area in Malkangiri district, officials said on Monday.
The contraband, weighing approximately 1,250 kg, was found packed in 56 bags during a search operation in the forest at Bejingwada under Kalimela police station limits on Sunday night.
Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Vinod Patil said efforts are underway to trace the source of the seized ganja and identify the persons involved in its cultivation, storage, and transportation. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the seizure.
The district, which has remained a major hub for illegal cannabis cultivation, has seen sustained enforcement action over the past year. Patil said police recovered nearly 31,000 kg of ganja from different parts of Malkangiri district in 2025 as part of intensified anti-narcotics operations.
Investigations are continuing.
