Bhubaneswar: A workshop on “AI in Polytechnic Education” was inaugurated on Friday at Government Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar, with senior officials and industry experts highlighting the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in technical education and future careers.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Skill Development & Technical Education Department.
Addressing the participants, Poonia stressed that understanding and adopting Artificial Intelligence is no longer optional but essential for students to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven job market. He assured that the State Government would continue to extend support to initiatives aimed at strengthening advanced technological competencies among diploma students.
The workshop featured two technical sessions delivered by experts from academia and industry. Prof. Dr. Srikanta Patnaik, Founder Director and Chairman of I.I.M.T., Bhubaneswar, spoke on “AI for Smart & Sustainable Humanity.” He elaborated on how Artificial Intelligence is transforming industries and contributing to innovation, efficiency, and sustainable development across sectors.
The second session, titled “Careers, Future Trends & Opportunities in AI,” was delivered by Meesam Hyder, Vice President – Strategy, AI & Digital Transformation at MyOumph Networks Private Limited. He outlined emerging job roles in the AI ecosystem, industry expectations, and the skills required for students to build successful careers in the rapidly evolving domain.
More than 80 diploma students participated in the programme, which focused on creating awareness about AI tools, real-world applications across engineering disciplines, ethical use of technology, and future employment opportunities. The Principal of Government Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar, along with faculty members, was also present on the occasion.
The workshop marks another step towards integrating cutting-edge technologies into polytechnic education and preparing students for the demands of the digital economy.
