Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Rayagada police have taken two people into custody for allegedly posing as Maoists and trying to create panic by putting up fake Maoist banners and posters across the district.
The accused have been identified as Anubrata Bara alias Ranjhu, a web channel journalist from Rayagada town, and Bali Majhi from Kanjammanda village under Kashipur police limits.
Both were taken into custody following an investigation after Maoist banners surfaced at three separate locations in Rayagada district on February 13.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the banners and posters were fabricated and had no links to any active Maoist outfit. The duo allegedly orchestrated the printing and display of these fake posters to create fear and disrupt public order in the district.
The arrested duo underwent medical examination as per procedure.
Police investigation revealed that Bali Majhi had been arrested earlier in connection with Maoist-related case. Police investigation is underway if his past is linked to the current incident.
