Bhubaneswar: ‘Operation Cyber Kavach’ launched by Odisha Police has achieved significant success, with Sambalpur, Rourkela, and Jharsuguda police uncovering major cyber frauds. Under the direction of DGP YB Khurania, the campaign has entered its seventh day.
Sambalpur police busted a Rs 110 crore scam, checking 300 benami bank accounts and arresting 20 people. Rourkela police dismantled an inter-state cricket betting syndicate, arresting 6 and seizing Rs 30.65 lakh cash, a Mahindra Thar, and electronics. Jharsuguda police busted a cyber syndicate, arresting 15 and issuing notices to eight.
Angul district police checked 1 anonymous account, registered 1 cyber case and arrested 1 person. Jharsuguda district police checked 33 anonymous accounts, registered 5 cases related to mule bank accounts and 1 case related to cheque withdrawal, arrested 16 people and issued a legal notice to 1 person.
Kandhamal district police checked 12 anonymous accounts and registered 2 cyber cases. Legal notices have been issued to 11 people in new and 6 old cases. Kendrapara district police checked 2 anonymous accounts, registered 1 case and arrested 2 people.
Keonjhar district police have investigated 6 anonymous accounts and registered 1 case related to mule Bank account and 2 cases related to cheque withdrawal and arrested 3 persons. They have issued notices to 5 persons in new and 4 old cases.
Nabarangpur district police have investigated 8 anonymous accounts and registered 1 case. They have issued notices to 7 persons in new and 4 old cases. Similarly, Sundargarh district police have investigated 15 anonymous accounts and registered 2 cases and issued legal notices to 4 persons. Dhenkanal district police have investigated 6 anonymous accounts and registered 1 case.
Similarly, Kalahandi district police have investigated 16 anonymous accounts and issued notices to 14 persons in 1 old case. Boudh district police have investigated 6 anonymous accounts and issued notices to 6 persons in 1 old case and have also registered 1 case related to cheque withdrawal.
To date, 1,166 benami bank accounts checked, 82 cases registered, and 84 arrested. Notices issued to 293 suspects. DGP Khurania vows to intensify the campaign, ensuring digital security for Odisha’s people.
