Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident in the state capital on Thursday, a woman was allegedly attacked with a sword near Satsang Vihar Park under the jurisdiction of Shahid Nagar Police Station. The victim has been identified as Kanakalata Sahu, a resident of Baliapata Basti in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the attack is suspected to be linked to a complaint filed by the woman against her neighbour a day earlier. On Wednesday, Kanakalata had lodged an FIR at Shahid Nagar Police Station accusing her neighbour of stealing her mobile phone and cash.
Sources said that on Thursday, the accused allegedly called Kanakalata on the pretext of returning the stolen money. When she reached the designated spot near Satsang Vihar Park, she was reportedly ambushed by a group of five to six individuals. During the assault, she was allegedly attacked with a sword, leaving her critically injured.
Locals rushed to her rescue and shifted her to a nearby hospital. She is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is reported to be serious.
On receiving information, Shahid Nagar Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. One youth allegedly involved in the attack has been detained for questioning, while efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining accused persons.
Police said further investigation into the incident is in progress.
