Bhubaneswar: The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly turned chaotic on Friday as Opposition members staged a protest over alleged paddy procurement irregularities.
The House was adjourned twice due to the pandemonium with Opposition members refusing to back down, despite Speaker Surama Padhy’s appeals for order. The House was adjourned twice – first till 11:30 am, and then till 4 pm – as BJD and Congress MLAs continued their prolonged protest over alleged paddy procurement irregularities. In a bid to resolve the deadlock, Speaker Surama Padhy has called an all-party meeting.
Before the adjournment, the Opposition members, led by Congress and BJD MLAs, were seen holding placards and shouting slogans, demanding action on the issue.
The question hour session was severely disrupted, with only 6 minutes of proceedings taking place. The House is expected to reconvene later, but the outcome remains uncertain.
