Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack arrested three persons on Friday for possession of 370 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs 37 lakh, said Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh today.

The arrested have been identified as Sameer Khan alias Muna or Mohan (44), a resident of Jhadeswar; Sk. Irsad Mohammad alias Surya (23), of Rajpur Basti; and Munaf Khan alias Mona (22), also from Rajpur Basti. All three fall under the jurisdiction of Jaleswar police station in Balasore district.

According to an official press release, the arrests were made following a meticulously coordinated intelligence input.

Based on this, the SCU launched a surveillance operation targeting the illicit brown sugar trade in Bhubaneswar. The operation culminated in a tactical interception near Shyama Shyam Dham Road, close to Doordarshan Kendra under Saheed Nagar police station, where the suspects had gathered to conduct illegal narcotics transactions.
