Bhubaneswar: Taking serious note of the gravity of Rajkanika minor girl gang rape case in Kendrapara district, the Crime Branch has categorized it as a Red Flag case to ensure close supervision by senior officers. The Crime Against Women (CAW) wing of the Crime Branch is overseeing the probe.
Sukant Patra, SDPO, stated that the survivor’s audio-video statement was recorded under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Based on prima facie evidence, a case was registered. The accused have been apprehended, medically examined, and are to be produced in court. The girl has received medical treatment.
In the shocking case, Police have arrested five staff members of a private English-medium school for allegedly gang-raping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Class VII girl multiple times over the past two years.
The accused include four teachers (including a woman teacher) and one peon. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for gang-rape of a minor and criminal intimidation, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The incident came to light after the girl’s mother lodged an FIR on Saturday (February 21, 2026) at Rajkanika Police Station. Reports indicate the girl’s father and the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) had also raised complaints separately.
The abuse allegedly occurred repeatedly within the school premises, often when no one else was around, involving coercion, threats, and enticements to silence the victim.The school, reportedly around 24 years old with approximately 600 students and 20 teachers, is located in the Rajkanika police limits.
A Special Public Prosecutor is to be appointed to fast-track the trial. Police emphasized that the entire investigation will proceed under the direct supervision of senior Crime Branch officers to ensure thoroughness and justice.
