Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed and several others injured after a giant display hoarding collapsed near Patrapada–Aiginia Durga Mandap here on Tuesday evening amid strong gusty winds.
The deceased were identified as Sachidanand Pradhan (38), a resident of Dumduma, while the identity of the other victim was yet to be established till the filing of this report.
According to reports, the hoarding suddenly came crashing down, trapping several people underneath and triggering panic in the busy locality. A few nearby shops also suffered damage due to the impact.
On being informed, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Officials of Bharatpur police station recovered the bodies and sent them to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals and are stated to be under treatment.
Rescue operations were underway at the time of filing this report.
