Bhubaneswar: The investigation into the death of a young woman who died after falling from the fourth floor of a building in Tarinigada area of Paradip late Sunday night under mysterious circumstances, took a serious twist, with police now suspecting that she was sexually assaulted before being murdered.
According to reports, the woman’s body was recovered two days ago from beneath a four-storey residential building in the Tarinigada area. Police had registered an unnatural death case in this connection.
During investigation after checking CCTV footage, police came to know that the victim hails from Kolar village under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur. On the fateful day, the victim, a Plus III student, had gone to the Sarala Temple with a male friend. After an alleged disagreement, she decided not to go with him and got off the vehicle. She was later spotted standing alone on the Cuttack-Paradip road.
During this time, a non-Odia youth approached her and allegedly offered her a lift. It is being suspected that the non-Odia youth might have taken her to his rented accommodation in the same building, and it’s from there that her body was later recovered.
Police suspect the accused sexually assaulted the woman and then pushed her off the rooftop to make it look like an accident. The suspect is in custody and being questioned.
