Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday approved a grant of Rs 1 crore for the construction of the new Brahma Taladhwaja chariot of the famous Lord Baladevjew Temple in Kendrapara district. The move comes after recent difficulties in the chariot’s movement caused delays during important rituals and festivals.

Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said that the 14 wheels of the current chariot were in poor condition, leading to operational issues. “The chariot was unable to reach the Mausi Maa Temple on schedule, causing delays of up to two days. A similar situation was observed during the Bahuda Yatra,” he explained.

To prevent such problems in the future, the state government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the timely construction of the new chariot. An independent directive has also been issued by the Law Department to ensure the work is completed without hindrance.

Minister Harichandan emphasised that the grant would benefit devotees and worshippers of Lord Baladevjew, as well as the local community. “The state government is committed to preserving the rituals and traditions of the temple. This grant will ensure that the chariot moves smoothly during all ceremonial occasions,” he added.

The move has been widely welcomed by residents of Kendrapara and devotees across the state, who see it as a step toward maintaining the heritage and religious traditions associated with the iconic Lord Baladevjew Temple.
