Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the new building will reflect the rich heritage, art, and culture of Odisha.

The existing Bhawan, he noted, is old and lacks adequate space and modern facilities. The new structure will have three basements, a ground floor, and six additional floors, housing 45 fully equipped suites. An exhibition area will be on the first floor, while the second floor will feature a 70-seat conference hall.

“The tender process for the project is complete, and construction will begin soon,” said the CM. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 93.27 crore.

The state government plans to strengthen administrative coordination and cultural ties through Odisha Bhawans in major cities. Apart from New Delhi, Bhawans are planned in Ayodhya, Bengaluru, and Surat. Land for these projects is being sought from the respective states.

Currently, Odisha Bhawans operate in Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai. A new Bhawan is also proposed in Mumbai to facilitate residents. A special division will be set up for the maintenance of all Bhawans and Sadans, the CM added.

In addition, a public shelter Bhawan will be constructed near Bhubaneswar Master Canteen Square. This facility will provide three-day low-cost accommodation for people visiting the city from other districts for urgent work.
