Bhubaneswar: MediAntar 2026, the annual media fest organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) of Rama Devi Women’s University (RDWU), commenced with traditional fervour and intellectual enthusiasm, setting the tone for a celebration of creativity, ethics and professional excellence in media.

The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, the university anthem and the presentation of saplings, symbolising knowledge, growth and sustainability. Ambika Sankar Mishra, Convenor of MediAntar 2026 and Head of the JMC Department, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. He underscored the fest’s focus on media literacy, professional skill-building and emerging opportunities in the rapidly evolving media landscape. He also expressed gratitude to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj for extending support in organising the event.

Prof. Chandi Charan Rath, Vice-Chancellor (I/C), addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of ethical journalism in an era increasingly challenged by misinformation. Prof. Rath emphasised that the media fest provides students with practical exposure, promotes responsible communication and nurtures creative thinking aligned with societal needs.

Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister for Higher Education, Sports & Youth Services, Odia Language & Culture, inspired students—particularly young women—by stressing the importance of women’s empowerment in journalism and technology. He spoke about the critical role of ethical media practices in strengthening democracy and shaping informed public opinion.

The inaugural session also featured the screening of “Maa Rama Devi” by Dasmati Chattar of Momentous Production, adding a cultural dimension to the event and celebrating legacy through visual storytelling.

Organising Secretary Narsingh Majhi reiterated the significance of student leadership, experiential learning and the need to combat misinformation through responsible journalism. MediAntar 2026 successfully blended creativity, ethics and technology, leaving a lasting impression on participants and attendees.

A panel discussion on “Media, Ethics & Women Leadership” brought together prominent voices including Sarada Lahangir, Abha Mishra, Dilip Bisoi and Prof. Archana Nayak. Moderated by Smiti Padhi, the discussion offered valuable insights into ethical journalism, media transparency and the broader societal impact of responsible reporting.

The fest featured eleven creative media competitions such as “Chhoti Film Badi Kahani,” “Reel-E-Reel” and “Doodle Drama,” alongside eight food stalls and an NGO initiative by Bagchi Karunashraya. Judges of the competitions were felicitated for their contributions, recognising their role in fostering innovation and ethical media practices among aspiring journalists.

MediAntar 2026 thus emerged as a vibrant platform that championed ethical journalism, women’s leadership and creative expression, reaffirming RDWU’s commitment to shaping responsible media professionals for the future.
