Bhubaneswar: A former Junior Soil Conservation Officer, Amar Kumar Das, has been convicted and sentenced to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 by a vigilance court in Bhawanipatna.
Das, who retired from the Watershed Development Project in Narla, Kalahanadi, was found guilty of demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 6,865 from a team member to forward utilisation certificates and extend his service agreement.
The Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Das under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will move to stop Das’ pension, ensuring accountability for his corrupt actions.
