Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Saturday organised a comprehensive mock drill on earthquake preparedness and fire safety at Rail Sadan, Bhubaneswar, in coordination with the Fire Services Wing of the Government of Odisha.
The exercise was conducted to assess and enhance the level of preparedness to effectively handle emergency situations such as earthquakes and fire incidents within office premises and adjoining residential colonies.
Officials and staff from various departments of ECoR actively participated in the drill, alongside personnel from the State Fire Fighting Brigade and disaster response teams.
The simulated emergency scenario involved swift evacuation procedures followed by a staged fire incident. Fire and rescue teams demonstrated systematic evacuation, search and rescue operations, fire suppression techniques, and the safe handling of affected occupants. Emphasis was placed on seamless coordination, prompt communication, and rapid response to minimise potential risks and ensure safety.
During the drill, participants were also sensitised on precautionary measures, use of fire safety equipment, assembly point protocols, and basic disaster management practices.
This initiative underscores East Coast Railway’s continued commitment to strengthening safety mechanisms, enhancing disaster response capability, and fostering close coordination with State authorities to ensure effective emergency management and the well being of employees and residents.
