Bhubaneswar: Amid heightened political activity in Odisha over the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced two candidates for the Upper House from the state. The party’s Central Election Committee has nominated state BJP president Manmohan Samal and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar.
The announcement has intensified political discussions in the state capital, as parties continue strategizing for the biennial polls.
Soon after the declaration of his candidature, Sujeet Kumar arrived at the state BJP headquarters in Bhubaneswar, where party workers and leaders welcomed him warmly. Supporters celebrated the occasion by offering sweets and expressing confidence in his victory.
Speaking to reporters, Sujeet Kumar expressed gratitude to the BJP’s central leadership for reposing faith in him. He said he would continue to work towards strengthening the party and raising issues concerning Odisha in the Rajya Sabha.
With the BJP’s current numerical strength in the Odisha Assembly, the victory of both Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar is considered almost certain. However, political circles remain abuzz over whether the party will field a third candidate for the remaining seat. No official announcement has been made in this regard so far.
The Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha are expected to further shape the state’s political landscape in the coming weeks.
