Keonjhar: Police in Keonjhar district have arrested two persons accused of raping a woman on the night of February 20, this year, during the celebrations of the traditional Mage Parab festival in Bhagalpur village under Joda police limits.
The incident reportedly occurred as the victim was returning home after attending the festival. The accused, identified as Suklal Munda of the same village, allegedly offered to drop her home on his motorcycle. According to the complaint, he stopped midway and raped her.
During the assault, a second accused, Basudev Gagrai, arrived at the location and allegedly joined in, raping the woman after threatening her.
The victim courageously lodged a complaint at the Joda police station following the incident. Acting swiftly on the report, police arrested both suspects.
The accused were subsequently produced before a local court, where they were remanded for further proceedings. Police have registered a case.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the victim to protect her identity and privacy. The incident has sparked concern in the local community, highlighting issues of women’s safety even during festive occasions.
