Bhadrak: Tension gripped Khordhapatana village under Tihidi police limits of Bhadrak district after a dispute over a DJ brought for the traditional ‘Kumbha Buda’ ritual escalated into a violent group clash, leaving 12 people injured, including three critically.
According to sources, residents of Parida Sahi had arranged a DJ on Tuesday for the ‘Kumbha Buda’ ceremony — a ritual involving the filling of earthen pitchers with water for puja. However, villagers from Palei Sahi reportedly objected to the DJ entering their locality, leading to tension in the village.
The situation worsened on Wednesday when youths from Parida Sahi were playing Holi with the DJ music. Members of Palei Sahi again raised objections, triggering a sudden outbreak of violence. Both sides allegedly engaged in attacks and counter-attacks.
As many as 12 people sustained injuries in the clash. Three critically injured persons have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak for treatment.
On being informed, police swung into action. Acting under the direction of the Bhadrak Superintendent of Police, the Tihidi IIC rushed to the village along with two platoons of police force to bring the situation under control.
Heavy police deployment continues in the village, and tension remains palpable as authorities work to restore normalcy.
