Bhubaneswar: A person reportedly died after being attacked by a rogue elephant in the Bantala Range under Angul Forest Division.
The deceased, identified as Naratam Mati, a resident of Hinsaloi village under Nandapur panchayat, was reportedly attacked while venturing into the forest.
According to sources, Naratam had gone to the forest yesterday and didn’t return. Family members and villagers searched for him, but in vain. To their utter surprise, they came to know that his body was lying near the forest around 1 am. He was subsequently rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Upon being informed, police and forest officials have launched an investigation, confirming the elephant attack as the likely cause of death.
However, tension ran high in the locality after Naratam’s body was found near the forest.
