Kaptipada (Mayurbhanj): Two minor girls drowned while bathing in a pond at Nachhipur village under Kaptipada police station limits on Saturday.
The victims, identified as Subhasandhya Nayak (7) and Rajalakshmi (8), were close friends.
According to reports, the girls returned from school and went to the pond near their house, ignoring their families’ advice to use a hand tube well for bathing. Villagers later noticed the children struggling in the water and immediately alerted their families.
The girls’ relatives rushed to the pond and rescued them, after which they were taken to Kaptipada Community Health Centre (CHC). However, the doctors declared both girls dead on arrival.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with friends and family members mourning the sudden loss.
