Bhubaneswar: Two Class-7 girls who ran away from their homes to avoid annual examinations were rescued from a relative’s house in Angul district, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh said on Sunday.
The girls left their homes under the Maitri Vihar police station area around 10 am on Thursday to go to school but did not return, prompting their parents to file a missing persons report. Despite a thorough search, the children could not be located, leading the police to announce a Rs 25,000 reward for information regarding their whereabouts.
“Using human intelligence and technical support, we rescued the two girls from Kishore Nagar in Angul district on Saturday,” said Commissioner Singh.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the girls’ annual examinations were scheduled to start on March 9. Both were reportedly weak in studies and left home to avoid appearing for the exams.
After completing verification and legal formalities, the girls have been reunited with their parents, the Commissioner added.
