Puri: A Fast Track Special Court in Puri on Tuesday convicted a man in connection with an attempt to rape a minor girl and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
The court of Additional District & Sessions Judge Hrushikesh Sahu also imposed a fine of ₹2,500 on the convict, Arjun Bhoi of Kesharpur village under Kanas police station limits in Puri district. In case of failure to pay the fine, the court ordered that he would have to undergo an additional 15 days of imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on September 22, 2024, when Bhoi allegedly attempted to rape a minor girl from the same village. Following the incident, a case was registered at Kanas police station and an investigation was launched.
After examining the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence on Tuesday.
Special Public Prosecutor Digdarshan Pattnaik represented the state during the trial.
