Bhubaneswar: Day temperatures rose sharply across several parts of Odisha on Thursday, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest place in the state at 40.8°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar at 7 pm.

The bulletin shows that many western and interior districts experienced intense heat, with Sambalpur recording a maximum temperature of 39°C and Hirakud and Talcher also reporting temperatures close to 38–39°C. The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 38.6°C, indicating a noticeable rise in daytime heat.

Among other major stations, Cuttack registered 35.6°C while Angul recorded 37.3°C. Coastal areas remained relatively cooler compared to interior districts, with Balasore recording 33.5°C, Chandbali 34.7°C, Paradip 32.2°C, Gopalpur 33.6°C and Puri 33°C.

Minimum temperatures across the state largely hovered between 16°C and 24°C. Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 23°C while Cuttack reported 22.4°C.

Humidity levels remained moderate to high in several coastal stations, contributing to warm and slightly uncomfortable conditions during the day.

Rainfall activity remained largely absent across the state. Most weather stations reported no rainfall during the past 24 hours, though Sambalpur recorded only a trace amount while Chandbali received light rainfall.

The weather bulletin indicates that rising temperatures are gradually pushing several western Odisha districts towards peak summer conditions, even as coastal regions continue to experience comparatively milder weather.
