Rourkela: Rourkela Police on Thursday recovered and returned 106 stolen and lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 32 lakh to their rightful owners during a special distribution programme held at the Police Headquarters.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Nitesh Wadhwani personally handed over the recovered devices and reiterated the department’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ property and strengthening public trust in the police.
Police officials said the recovery was made possible under “Project SHIELD”, a technology-enabled initiative that leverages artificial intelligence support and the Integrated Control Room to track habitual offenders and monitor activities across the city through a network of more than 220 CCTV cameras.
The Rourkela Police also appealed to citizens to actively participate in the “Pledge Your Camera” initiative, which aims to expand the city’s surveillance network with the support of the public and enhance overall safety through stronger police–public partnership.
