Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident at the sacred Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, blood spilled near the Kala Hata Dwara (also known as Kalahata or Chamu Dwara), the silver-adorned entrance to the sanctum sanctorum.
A Bojhia (or Bhogia) servitor, ( servitor who carries precious bhoga to the deities) sustained head injuries during the mishap—likely from an accidental fall or collision while handling the sacred items.
As per ancient temple traditions, any spillage of blood inside the holy precincts necessitates purification. The deities—Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra—underwent the elaborate Bada Mahasnana or grand purification bath ritual to cleanse the sanctum and restore sanctity.
Consequently, general darshan for devotees was suspended for approximately one and a half hours while the maha snana and related cleansing ceremonies were performed. Temple authorities ensured the rituals were completed, allowing darshan to resume without further delay.
