Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance has arrested Rajani Kanta Kar, Junior Clerk-cum-Accountant at Barpali Block Education Office in Bargarh for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 to process an official’s arrear salary.
As per reports, the official had approached Accountant Kar multiple times to expedite the process of drawing his arrear salary, but Kar deliberately delayed taking necessary steps. Instead of processing the pending salary, Kar demanded a bribe of Rs 6,000 to facilitate the payment.
Feeling harassed and frustrated, the official decided to report the matter to the vigilance authorities.
Acting on the complaint, Odisha Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and apprehended Kar while he was accepting the bribe amount of Rs 6,000 from the official. The entire tainted bribe money was recovered from Kar’s possession.
Meanwhile, searches are currently underway at two locations linked to Kar to investigate potential disproportionate assets. In connection with this case, Sambalpur Vigilance Police has registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Kar.
An investigation is in progress to gather more evidence and determine the extent of Kar’s properties.
