Bhubaneswar: A high-level meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan on Monday to review plans for the proposed Kharagpur–Tangi–Visakhapatnam–Vijayawada Expressway and the associated high-speed corridor that will pass through several districts of Odisha.
The meeting was chaired by Works Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh. Officials discussed the proposed alignment of the six-lane greenfield high-speed corridor, focusing on district-wise routing, connectivity to major cities, integration with economic zones, and land acquisition requirements.
According to officials, the expressway will run through four states—West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh—covering a total length of about 1,102 km. Of this, 522 km will pass through Odisha and will be constructed entirely as a new greenfield alignment.
In Odisha, the corridor will pass through nine districts—Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput—connecting 27 cities and significantly improving transport links across the state. The corridor is also expected to strengthen connectivity to major mineral belts and economic zones, potentially boosting industrial growth and regional development.
District-wise estimates discussed in the meeting indicated that the longest stretch—around 97 km—will be built in Ganjam, followed by 88 km in Dhenkanal, and 86 km each in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. About 53 km of the corridor will pass through Rayagada district.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Engineer-in-Chief and Special Secretary Laxmikant Padhi, EIC (Civil & Roads-2) Satyabrat Behera, EIC (Roads-1) Dhyanachand Nayak, Regional Officer of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Sunil Kumar, Chief Engineer (Roads) Shibabrata Tarai, Chief Engineer (National Highways) Narayan Patel, along with other senior departmental officers.
The proposed high-speed corridor is expected to enhance inter-state connectivity and improve logistics efficiency while opening up new opportunities for economic expansion across Odisha.
