Puri: A second-year B.Tech student from Bhubaneswar went missing while bathing at Puri Beach on Sunday afternoon, sparking a massive search operation by lifeguards and local authorities.
The missing student has been identified as Animesh Sahu, a Computer Science major at a private institute in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Animesh had come to Puri along with two friends for a short trip. In the afternoon, the trio went for a swim near Swargadwar Beach, where Animesh was reportedly swept away by strong waves and rip currents.
Lifeguards immediately launched a search operation covering multiple beaches, including Puri, Pentakota, Nuanai, Beleswar, Ramachandi, and Chandrabhaga. Despite continuous efforts since Sunday, no trace of the student has been found so far.
Speaking to the media, Puri District Collector Dibyajyoti Parida said, “Adequate deployment of lifeguards will be ensured to make sea bathing safer at Puri Beach, as such incidents continue to occur frequently. Visitors are urged to follow safety guidelines strictly.”
