Cuttack: Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Monday visited the injured victims of the fire incident at Trauma Care ICU of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here and reviewed the situation following the tragedy that claimed 10 lives.
Patnaik arrived at the hospital in the evening and met the several injured persons who are undergoing treatment. According to hospital authorities, 11 people sustained injuries in the incident and are currently receiving medical care.
During his visit, Patnaik interacted with the injured patients, inquired about their health condition, and wished them a speedy recovery. He also held discussions with the attending doctors regarding the treatment being provided to the victims.
The Leader of the Opposition later met the families of those who lost their lives in the incident and conveyed his condolences.
Describing the incident as deeply tragic, Patnaik said efforts had been initiated during his government to transform SCB Medical College and Hospital into a world-class facility. “When our government was in power, work had begun to develop SCB into a world-class institution with a plan to complete it within two years. However, even two years after the new government came to power, the work could not be carried out,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior leader Dilip Ray also visited the hospital, met the injured patients, and reviewed their condition.
The fire incident late Sunday night has triggered widespread concern over safety measures at one of the state’s largest government hospitals.
