Woman Beaten To Death, Another Injured In Puri

Bhubaneswar: A woman was beaten to death and another critically injured following a violent altercation at Jadupur village under Arakhakuda Marine Police limits in Puri district late on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Jena, while the injured, her daughter Namita, is undergoing treatment.

According to reports, the incident occurred following an argument between the accused and his sister-in-law. The situation soon escalated into violence, during which the accused allegedly assaulted his sister-in-law.

Hearing the commotion, Laxmi Jena intervened to pacify the situation. However, the accused allegedly attacked her with a wooden stick, leaving both women seriously injured.

They were initially rushed to a nearby healthcare facility and later shifted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital as their condition deteriorated. Doctors at the hospital declared Laxmi Jena brought dead, while Namita continues to be under treatment.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
