Berhampur: In a tragic incident in Kerala, two migrant labourers from Ganjam district lost their lives while attempting to rescue a goat from a well, just days before they were scheduled to return home.
The deceased have been identified as Narsingh Pradhan and Santosh Badatya, residents of Khariaguda village under Patrapur block in Ganjam district. Both had been working in a private company in Malappuram, Kerala, for the past three years.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday evening when a goat accidentally fell into a well at a house near their workplace. In an attempt to rescue the animal, the two men entered the well but reportedly came into contact with an electric pump installed inside, leading to a fatal electric shock.
Local fire department personnel later retrieved them from the well, and they were declared dead.
Family members said the two had been earning steadily and regularly sending money home, supporting their households. They had also booked train tickets and were scheduled to return to their native village on March 19.
The untimely deaths have cast a pall of gloom over Khariaguda village, where grieving families and residents are struggling to come to terms with the loss.
