Bhubaneswar: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador for Census 2027 by the Central Government’s Ministry of Home Affairs. As ambassador, Pattnaik will create awareness about the upcoming census through his sand art, focusing on the importance of participation and accurate data collection.
The 2027 census will collect data on caste and socio-economic status, potentially impacting India’s political and social structure. It will also inform the delimitation of constituencies, affecting representation in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Notably, Census 2027 will be 16th Census in the country and 8th after independence. The census operation in Odisha is scheduled to commence in April. This exercise is a significant update, as the last census was conducted in 2011. The 2021 census, which was initially planned, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been rescheduled accordingly.
Odisha to conduct census in two phases: Household listing and marking from Feb 1, followed by house-to-house survey. Citizens can also provide information online via website. 90% of census work to be done digitally.
