Puri: A tourist was rescued after being swept away by a strong rip current while bathing at the sea near Swargadwar beach in Puri on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident occurred at Sector-9 of the Swargadwar beach around 11:30 AM, when the tourist, identified as Harihar Behera from Kundi village in Balasore district, ventured into the sea for a bath.
According to reports, Behera was caught in a powerful rip current and dragged into deeper waters, triggering panic among onlookers.
Alert locals quickly raised an alarm, prompting lifeguards on duty to swing into action. The rescue team rushed into the sea and managed to bring the tourist safely back to shore.
He was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri.
Sources from the Fire Services department said the rescued tourist is currently stable.
Authorities have once again urged visitors to exercise caution while entering the sea, particularly in areas prone to strong currents.
