Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms and lightning across several states, including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, due to nor’wester activity.
“Orange warning is issued for light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind activity along with light to modertae rain over Jammu region , Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat”, read IMD notification.
On the other hand, red warning for severe thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed 62-87 kmph(in gusts) along with moderate rain(5-15 mm/hr) is issued over Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, NTR & West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD has identified the storm as westerly wind. People are advised to carry umbrellas and raincoats when stepping out. Temperatures are expected to drop by 4-6 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
The state will experience nor’wester activity till April 24, with thunderstorms and rain likely in some areas daily. The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, and Boudh districts on Thursday.
