Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly remained disrupted today as opposition members continued to demand the resignation of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling over deadly fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital that claimed 13 lives.
The opposition, led by BJD and Congress, staged a protest, insisting on the minister’s resignation, citing negligence in hospital safety standards.
It is pertinent to mention that the SCB hospital fire has thrown the state politics into turmoil, with the opposition creating a ruffle in the Assembly. The House has been repeatedly adjourned as opposition members, demanding the resignation of the Health Minister. The opposition has dug in its heels, refusing to allow the House to function until the Minister steps down. BJD members have issued a stern warning, stating that the House will remain stalled until the Minister resigns.
Opposition leader Pramila Mallik accused the government of inaction, saying the Health Minister lacks ethics and should resign on moral ground.
Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House multiple times – first until 11:30 am, then 1 pm, and later 4 pm – in an attempt to restore order, but the uproar persisted.
