Bhubaneswar: Police in Odisha’s Boudh district, Malkangiri district and Gajapati district have intensified their crackdown on narcotics trafficking, seizing a total of 2,868 kg of ganja in coordinated operations over the past five days.

According to official press release, the seizures were made between March 15 and March 20, 2026, as part of a sustained anti-narcotics drive across multiple police jurisdictions.

In Boudh district, police conducted raids under Kantamal Police Station and Model Police Station limits, leading to the seizure of 1,600 kg of ganja. The operations were carried out based on intelligence inputs regarding illegal storage and transportation.

In a separate operation on Friday, police in Gajapati district seized 725 kg of ganja during raids in Rajpur and Mohanagudi villages under Adaba Police Station. Vehicles and mobile phones used in the illicit trade were also confiscated, and the accused persons have been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, police in Malkangiri district recovered 543 kg of ganja from areas under Chitrakonda Police Station, Orkel Police Station and Kalimela Police Station. In addition to the seizures, law enforcement authorities destroyed illegal ganja cultivation spread across approximately eight acres of land.

Police said the intensified enforcement measures are part of a broader effort to curb narcotics production and trafficking in southern and western Odisha, with further investigations underway to trace supply chains and identify larger networks involved in the trade.
